May 10, 2018
Housing Northwest Arkansas started as an initiative led by the University of Arkansas' Fay Jones School and is funded through a grant from the Walton Family Foundation. The Professional Design Competition is the final component of a three-tiered project including a design studio focused on students and a regional symposium focused on the community. The competition explores solutions for affordable housing.
Works Progress Architecture, among 24 nationally and internationally acclaimed design professionals were invited to present designs for mixed-use housing in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Capillary Living, entered by Works Progress Architecture received an Overall Commendation from the jury. Conceptually and schematically, the project functions as a capillary, providing both an organizational framework for the design and as reference to a mechanism of exchange. It is at the intersection of networked programs and circulation that points of interaction are amplified, reinforcing social potential and produces a vibrant and sustainable model of living for Bentonville.
