Encased Houses
Encased Houses is a series of overlapping inquiries: introversion and extroversion; transparency and opacity; industrial toughness and residential comfort. Two houses emerge: one cloistered and shielded, the other opening up to the street. An ensnared garden, nested between an existing warehouse that will be converted to studio space and the new residence, acts as a soft buffer between the working and living areas of the complex. The diagram takes the form of two interlocking concrete walls, each shielding and protecting a dwelling while guiding it towards light and views.
